Woman having reiki healing treatment , alternative medicine concept.

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique which can be translated as Universal Life Force Energy.  This  energy is flowing abundantly around and within all living things.  When we are in excellent health, there is a powerful flow of this energy through our bodies.  However, during stressful times, this energy flow is slowed down or restricted, manifesting as illness, mental or emotional upset, or a general feeling of being ‘out of sorts’.  Reiki is a way of channelling energy through the hands of a practitioner which are placed above or on different parts of a client’s fully-clothed body.

Reiki re-balances, heals and harmonises the recipient in a holistic way on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level and accentuates and body’s own natural healing process.  Reiki is particularly effective in relieving stress, depression and anxiety and helps to eliminate pain as well as accelerating the healing of injuries.

The healing energy flows to wherever it is needed in the body, promoting a deep relaxation and a feeling of profound wellbeing and inner calm.  Studies have shown that 1 hour of Reiki is the equivalent of 3-4 hours sleep.  A single Reiki treatment ctherefore can be very relaxing experience, however, a series of treatments can generally have a very positive effect on your whole being.

Reiki is suitable for people of all ages and in all states of health.  Reiki is a safe, gentle and non-intrusive therapy that works byu harmonising mind, body emotions and spirit.  This can help to kick-start your body’s own natural healing ability bringing you back to a more healthy and relazex state.

What does Reiki Feel Like?

The flow of energy can be felt in many different ways.  Some feel heat in the specific areas, or flowing up and down the body, and some feel colder areas.  Some feel tingling, pulsing, some see colours, some tend to twitch a little as the energy flows and sometimes, you can get insights into their problems.

There are also some who just feel so deeply relaxed that they fall asleep!

Can Reiki be Used on Animals Too?

Absolutely!  Animals love Reiki and get great benefit from it.  Animals, including wild animals, intuitively recognise and appreciate Reiki’s ability to heal.  They often learn to seek it out on their own.  Animals often respond more quickly to Reiki Healing than people do and positive results are seen in a relatively short period of time.

Reiki heals on all levels of an animal’s being and does not cause stress, discomfort or pain.  Reiki is an effective form of complementary animal healing and using it alongside veterinary treatments can accelerate the healing process, ease pain, and improve, r help to continue, the animal’s quality of life.

Although I would be delighted to offer Reiki to your pet, it is essential that you obtain veterinary treatment for a sick or dying animal.  The paragraph below sets out the relevant legislation with regard to treating animals.

The Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966 prohibits anyone, other than a qualified veterinarian from treating animals, including diagnosis of ailments and giving advice on such diagnosis..  However, the healing of animals by contact healing, by the laying of hands or distant healing is legal.  The Protection of Animals Act 1911 requires that if an animal clearly needs treatment from a vet, the owner must obtain this.  To give emergency first aid to animals for the purpose of saving life or relieving pain is permissible under the Veterinary Surgeons act 1966 Schedule 3 (taken from the UK Reiki Federation Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice – March 2002).
